New Melones Reservoir

For the last ten years, the King salmon and Rainbow trout have been exceptional! It's not uncommon to catch two-four pound fish.

Situated in the scenic Sierra Nevada foothills, Lake McClure offers a unique combination of exceptional year-round recreational opportunities and facilities. Lakes McClure is fed by the the Merced River. Lake elevation is 867 ft. above sea level, has over 80 miles of shoreline, and 7,100 surface acres of water.

With over 1 million acre-feet of water storage capacity, Lake McClure is a reservoir that can produce some good-sized fish. Regular planting of trout and King salmon by the Department of Fish and Game and by the District keeps the fishery productive.
